Quiksilver Presents Viva Prahran 2007

20/11/2007
VIVA PRAHRAN
Skateboard competition
Presented by Quiksilver, Red Bull, Oakley and Stonnington council

On Saturday Quiksilver hosted the 5th annual “Viva Prahran” skateboard competition at Prahran Skate Park.  The comp was broken into a separate street and ramp event.  The weather provided us with the perfect day for our competition.

After the rider registration the vert competition took place and definitely showcased some of Australia’s best skateboarders.  We drew competitors from lots of others states and as far away as US. – the International Element team made a surprise visit. Approximately one hundred riders went head to head for the seven and a half thousand dollars in cash and prizes.  The Quiksilver team was in full force, reigning champ Shane “Nugget” O’neill placed second.  Richard Flude skated well in an “all or nothing” manner and won a best rick competition.  Tristan walker made the final but did not get on the podium.

SLAM magazine editor and staff made it to the event and are planning an article.

Plenty of people made it out to witness the event and there is great feedback and video/pictures on Skateboard.com.au.

Everyone who attended the comp scored “goodies” from our sponsors and a free snag from the Barbie.

The event had support from Quiksilver, Oakley, Red Bull and Stonnington Council all of whom where more than generous and made the day as successful as it was.  After the event the sponsors discussed the option of making the event bigger and better for next year through more financial resources and it was agreed that we will try to make it one of Australia’s bigger competitions for 2008.

One thing that stood out to me at this comp was the fact that there were young juniors eagerly participating in the un-sponsored section, along with the heavy hitters competing for the cash in the main event and lots of older Prahran veterans there watching and supporting the action.  It was the complete spectrum of Melbourne skateboarding…and strangely nothing got stolen!
